The PhilScience Gambling Lab gathers a team of scientists, researchers, and students who are dedicated to the scientific study of gambling from the perspective of mathematics, cognitive psychology, and epistemology.
The Gambling Lab team is lead by Dr. Cătălin Bărboianu (PhD, MSc, BSc) and conducts academic research and research-based projects in the fields of applied mathematics, problem gambling, and responsible gambling. At the heart of our research in this lab is the desire to explore and exploit the cognitive virtues of mathematics and its epistemology for a decisive contribution to effective prevention and counseling in problem gambling and for facilitating responsible gambling. In general, the central aim of our work is to make gambling safer and legitimate for everyone.
Topics of interest include gambling mathematics in all its aspects (including strategic), roles of mathematics in problem gambling, investigation and correction of gambling cognitive distortions, and ethical aspects of gambling. Our research is interdisciplinary and our projects are addressed not only to the academic community, but also to the gambling industry, with which we collaborate. -
